20-year-old Shane Dadswell scores record 490 runs in 50 over game

20-year-old Shane Dadswell from South Africa scored an incredible 490 runs in just 151 balls in a fifty over game for his club NWU Pukke in a match against Potch Dorp on Saturday. Eventually, his side won the game by an incredible 387 runs, after Potch Dorp could only manage 290/9 in their 50 overs.

Dadswell, scored over 90% of his runs from boundaries hitting an astonishing 57 sixes and 27 fours in his innings. The Pukke batsmen broke records for partnerships as well with the first three partnerships adding 194, 204, and 220 respectively to the total.While he was the star of the show his teammate Ruan Haasbroek, too scored a century in just 54 balls. In their fifty overs, they powered their side to an enormous 677/3 in 50 overs.

He eventually fell short of the 500-run mark by 10 runs when he was caught by Ludwig Roos off Cobus Crowther’s bowling on the first ball of the 47th over. However, Dadswell was not done yet. He then bowled seven overs in the next innings and finished with figures of 2/32, including a maiden over.

The Potch Dorp bowlers made records of their own as well. Four of their bowlers ended up conceding over a century of runs while the two other bowlers, O'Neill Marais and Jaco Grobbelaar, fell short of the landmark by two and six runs respectively.
