Green Park personnel saw an over-enthusiastic Virat Kohli fan breaching the security set up to enter the ground and congratulate Kohli as soon as he took a single off a Mitchell Santner delivery to reach his 32nd ODI century. He was hauled off the ground and was later detained by the local police.

Fans intervening international games to meet their favourite cricketing stars or simply embarking on an attention seeking run is very common in every sport and more so in Indian cricket. The third ODI between India and New Zealand saw one such incident in Kanpur on Sunday, when a Virat Kohli fan entered Green Park to meet and congratulate his idol.

It happened as soon as Kohli took a single off Mitchell Santner's delivery in the 44th over of the innings to complete his the 32nd century of his career. The fan jumped onto the ground with the security oblivious to his presence and started running towards the skipper with a shirt bearing his name. He, however, stopped near the square-leg umpire and the match had to be stopped as security officials came in running and took him away. The fan, who kept waving to a full-house crowd in Kanpur, reportedly was detained by the local police after the incident.

This isn’t the first time that Kanpur has seen such an incident. In the past, an IPL match between Gujarat Lions and Delhi Daredevils also witnessed a fan intervention. The Kanpur crowd, undoubtedly, one of the most competitive ODI matches in recent memory as New Zealand's determined batting took the match right up to the wire after India had posted a massive target of 338 runs. Eventually, the Kiwis lost the game and the series 2-1.
