Rohit Sharma believes India have two of the world’s best death over bowlers in the side in the shape of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who make challenging top sides easy for the team. The Indian vice-captain also revealed how he changed his batting after dry spells in Mumbai and Pune.
Rohit Sharma was full of praise for the pace bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar after India sealed the ODI series against New Zealand with a fantastic team performance. Though it was the right-handed batsman, who received the MOTM for his blistering knock of 147 runs in the first innings, Bumrah and Kumar’s bowling during the last five overs made all the difference in the end.
With just 30 needed off the last 18 balls and five wickets in hand on a track that was batting friendly, India needed something special from their bowlers to beat New Zealand. And they did exactly that eventually restricting the Kiwis to 331 runs.
“Even in this match, there was so much dew. The ball was wet and to be able to
Bumrah and Kumar have picked up a joint 11 wickets in the 3-match ODI series, while against Australia in the previous series, the duo had scaled 10 wickets. Even Aussie captain Steven Smith had commended their talents stating them as one of the best in the world at the moment.
“There are no easy wins. If you look at the last series against Australia, the way they have bowled, you have to praise them a lot. Because if you look at Australia's batting, with their power hitting, those were the two bowlers who got us back most of the times,” Sharma continued.
Sharma made a thumping comeback in Kanpur after failing to score big against the Kiwis in the first two ODIs. It was his 200 plus partnership with Virat Kohli that initially helped in posting a competitive target for India.
Admitting to making some technical changes after consulting assistant coach Sanjay Bangar, Sharma said, “I did not make any mental change. There will be failures at times. It does not mean you need to change a whole lot. You need to focus on little things. I was trying to do that. Watching my videos, talking to our batting coaches.”
