Michael Clarke has claimed that he is confident about the inclusion of MS Dhoni in the 2019 World Cup and added that Dhoni can be a key member of the 2023 World Cup as well. In the first ODI against Australia, Dhoni not only performed behind the stumps but scored an important half century as well.

Ahead of the start of the ODI series against Sri Lanka, critics had questioned Dhoni’s form and his place in the team. Even some hinted that he should hang up his boots from international cricket but the wicketkeeper-batsman replied in the best way possible. Dhoni played four innings in the island nation scoring 162 runs without losing his wicket while remaining not out throughout the tour. Adding to his runs, he also created history by becoming the first player in history to complete a century of stumpings.

In the home series against Australia, the 36-year-old continued his terrific form scoring an important 79 after the hosts had found themselves at 87/5 at one point of time. Dhoni, along with Hardik Pandya, guided the team to a respectable score of 281/7 which India eventually won after a rain delay.

Former Australian skipper Clarke praised Dhoni’s recent form and stated that if the former Indian skipper continues to perform this way then he can definitely play the 2023 World Cup for India.

"Don't ask me whether he will play in the 2019 World Cup. He will play in 2023," Clarke said as quoted by News18.

Earlier, Chairman of selectors MSK Prasad had admitted that MS Dhoni’s future was discussed during the selection meeting which was organised to pick the squad for the limited overs series against Sri Lanka.

"You have been fair and I will be honest. Discussions happen about everybody. It is not just MS. When we pick, when we talk about combinations, we talk about everybody. You will also see in times to come," Prasad said

"You never know. We don't say it is an automatic thing (selection) but we will see. We are all stakeholders. We all want the Indian team to do well. If he is delivering, why not? If he is not, we will have to look at alternatives."
