Australia skipper Steve Smith has heaped praise on the fitness and energy levels of team India and has revealed that winning a Test series on Indian wicket will be a great achievement. Despite enjoying all formats of the game, he also stated that batting in Test cricket is the real challenge.

Steve Smith has shed some light on the age-old rivalry between Australia and India ahead of the second ODI and has declared that he would love to win a Test series for his country on the challenging Indian tracks.

Speaking at an event organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce, the young skipper said, “It is a massive rivalry and has been for so long. As a captain, you would love to win a Test series here in India. It is one of the toughest places to come and play. The wicket is so different and there is always great cricket.”

An admirer of Sachin Tendulkar and Harbhajan Singh, Smith has been playing against them and many Indian players in the Indian Premier League for years now, and is well acquainted with their strength. Smith has admired the fitness and energy levels of the Men in Blues, which makes things all the more difficult for them.

“This Indian group is quite fit and they take pride in their fitness. You can certainly see the difference in the energy levels and the way they go about their business,” said the 28-year-old.

Smith will play his 100 game in ODIs on Thursday, which will be quite a milestone in his career. However, the boy from Sydney has always considered the Baggy Green as his real achievement.

“The Baggy Green is my most-prized possession. It has been worn by 450-odd players now. It is really special to represent your country. There is no better thing to do. I love playing every format but Test cricket is ultimate… The real challenge is to bat long… I love every format of the game,” he added.
