Anil Kumble feels the decision to let Harbhajan Singh depart to CSK will prove to be crucial for the Mumbai-based franchise as they lack a specialist spinner in this edition of the IPL. Kumble added that the responsibility to lead the spinners will rest on the shoulders of all-rounder Krunal Pandya.

The Indian Premier League has brought about the formation of many cordial relationships between owners and players. The on-screen chemistry of KXIP co-owner Preity Zinta and her players, the Mallya’s and their team and the Ambani’s and the MI players are well-known to the Indian masses. The association between the Ambani family and Harbhajan Singh was well-documented throughout his association with the franchise. And it is a no-brainer that the decision to let the veteran spinner depart was a hard one for the owners and the support staff at MI.

Team's former mentor Anil Kumble has stressed how important the spinner was for the Indians and how they will face a tough challenge to replace a player who brought so much experience to the side.

Kumble was quick to add that the team managed a pull off a coup in the form of all-rounder Krunal Pandya on whom they used their Right-to-match card. According to India’s leading Test wicket-taker, the responsibility to guide the young spinners in the MI dugout will be on Pandya’s shoulders.

"Mumbai Indians will certainly miss the experience of Harbhajan Singh as a spinner. Krunal Pandya is a really good all-rounder, but he will have to lead the spinners now. They have Rahul (Chahar) as a leg-spinner, but again an unknown youngster. The experience of someone like Bhajji (Harbhajan) during those four overs and also what he brings with the bat as well ... but having said that they have the other bases covered," Kumble said while speaking during the 'Star Sports Select: The Dugout' program.

The duo of Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Bangladesh bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who are both considered to be death-over specialists, is sure to be MI’s biggest weapon in the bowling department this year. Kumble opined that they both would play a crucial role in the death overs for the Mumbai based franchise.

"The Mumbai Indians have got Mustafizur Rahman, so that he can play that role of bowling in the death overs. They have (Jasprit) Bumrah, who has grown leaps and bounds, he is the go-to bowler for the team," said Kumble.
