Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma is positive that all-rounder Hardik Pandya will be fit before their next game on April 12 in Hyderabad. He has also added that it’s pretty difficult to contain any batsmen at the small boundaries of the Wankhede Stadium with the dew factor coming into play.

On the last ball of the 20th over of the first innings of the first game, Mumbai Indians got a scare as Hardik Pandya was down on the floor groaning in pain after twisting his ankle. However, the Indian all-rounder showed great determination as he walked out and took the field. Even though he was seen limping a little bit, the younger Pandya also bowled his quota of four overs and had figures of 3/24. There were concerns if Hardik Pandya would play the next game and Rohit Sharma put an end to the debate as he confirmed that there is nothing serious.

“He's looking good for now. He twisted his ankle but he came (back on the field) and bowled four overs. We still have three days (for the next match, against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 12). I think he will be fine,” Rohit Sharma was quoted saying by CricketNext.

Mumbai Indians were in total control for large parts of the game. Defending 166, MI reduced CSK to 118/8 and the equation was then reduced to 47 runs in 3 overs. But a thrilling innings from Dwayne Bravo helped CSK get over the line.

“Everyone saw what happened. There were certain things that we did not do right in the pressure situation. That's all. We were in the game till the 17th over. In the last three overs the game drifted away from us. You cannot do much about it. At Wankhede it is always difficult to contain batsmen once they are set. With the dew and all those factors it is very hard for the bowlers, but that is not an excuse. I am just trying to say what exactly happened on that day and in that particular over,” the MI skipper added.

Jasprit Bumrah had a rare off day as he went for 20 runs in the penultimate over. He was hit for three sixes by Bravo before India’s premier pacer dismissed the West Indian all-rounder.

“Bumrah is one of the highest rated Indian death bowlers. Anyone can have a bad day. Yes, of course (he will make a strong comeback). He is a very strong character. Games like this teaches you more as an individual and he has played enough now to understand how he needs to comeback from those situations,” India’s limited-overs vice-captain said.

MI surprised everyone when they picked Mayank Markande in the XI ahead of Rahul Chahar. But the youngster from Punjab repaid the faith showed by the team management with a splendid performance on debut. He took 3/23 and also bagged the big wicket of MS Dhoni.

“He has got great control of whatever he does, so, I think going forward he will be a great weapon for us. You never know, he has got great skills and potentially he is good. It's just about going out there and doing what he is doing. For us, me and Mahela (Jayawardene), as captain and coach, we just have to be supporting this guy. He has got everything that he needs to be successful at the highest level,” Rohit stated.
