The controversy surrounding the Decision Review System (DRS) continues as KL Rahul was not awarded a boundary after DRS overturning an LBW appeal in his favour. The incident occurred in the third over of the game when Bhuvneshwar Kumar trapped Rahul in front before DRS saved the 26-year-old opener.

The introduction of the Decision Review System (DRS) in this IPL has been a welcome move as it has already overturned quite a few decisions impacting crucial outcomes. However, it has its downsides as well, which remained a huge talking point in today’s IPL fixture between Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

KL Rahul has been in terrific form and has started the season on a very bright note. He struck the fastest fifty in the history of the IPL in KXIP’s first game of the tournament, and then followed it by scores of 47 and 37 in the next two games. However, after Ravichandran Ashwin became the first captain in this season to opt to bat first in the game against SRH, Rahul started with Chris Gayle with an aim of putting early runs on the board.

Starting sedately, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was seen trapping Rahul in front foot as the umpire’s finger was raised. The Karnataka opener reviewed it straight away as he knew he had got an inside-edge. Ultra-edge confirmed the same as Rahul was saved by technology. However, the ball had raced away to the third man boundary by that moment and since it was given out, Punjab players weren't too worried about it.

However, after the decision was overturned, there was a debate whether four runs would be added since it was not the right decision to start with. And though Rahul continued to bat after being saved by the technology, he didn't get the runs. Rahul later got dismissed after scoring just 18 off 21 balls.
