Delhi Daredevilsā€™ assistant coach Pravin Amre feels that skipper Gautam Gambhirā€™s experience of winning two IPL titles for Kolkata Knight Riders makes him a valuable leader. He has also admitted that Gambhir has the ability to take quick decisions on the field and stay one step ahead of the game.

Delhi Daredevils have had an indifferent start to this seasonā€™s IPL as they have won just one game out of the four that they have played and are languishing at the bottom of the table.Ā However, Pravin Amre, Delhi Daredevilsā€™ assistant coach believes that skipper Gautam Gambhirā€™s experience of winning the IPL titles is valuable and that is what that separates him from the rest. Gambhir led Kolkata Knight Riders to title victories in 2012 and 2014.Ā

ā€œGautam comes with the experience of winning IPL twice for KKR which increases his value as a leader. That's the beauty of it all, anybody can't win the championship just like that. He won back-to-back championships for KKR, that's what he brings to the table,ā€ Pravin Amre was quoted saying by CricketNext.Ā

Gambhir has led 127 games in the history of the IPL and has a won 71 games as captain. Hence, he knows what changes should be made during the critical situations and has the ability to stay one step ahead of the game.Ā Ā

ā€œAs coaches, we cannot be on the field always. Quick decisions need to be taken on the field. I thinkĀ that is where the captain has to be one step ahead of the game. Gautam knows what are the changes needed, especially when it comes to breaking big partnerships or when you get back to back wickets how to use your fifth bowler, putting pressure when the new batsmen are coming. He is very good in thatĀ because he played all the IPLs, that's the value and experience he brings to the table. He's got a very good command on the players also,ā€ Amre said.Ā

Delhi next play Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)Ā today in their fifth straight away fixture. RCB have also struggled and have won only one out of their four games. However, the DD assistant coach is wary of RCBā€™s strengths.Ā

ā€œWe know what are RCB's strengths. We are mostly worried about our strengths, we are going to work on that which will help us beat RCB. Also, RCB also lost their last game, theĀ pressure is on them. When we played in Mumbai, they lost three back to back games. We have to play to our strength,ā€ the 49-year-old added.

RCB have the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Brendon McCullum, and Quinton de Kock in their ranks and still havenā€™t got going in this IPL. However, Amre feels itā€™s still early days and the momentum can shift quickly.Ā

ā€œAs we all know they are great players in this format also. Sometimes it just takes time. It's too early to say, as it is the early part of IPL. We know that turnarounds can happen once they get the momentum, they are all great players, individually they are match winners. So any team can't underestimate them, but then ultimately it's the execution, that's very important for any team for that matter, whether you are a great player or a youngster also. This is the beauty of IPL, it gives the platform to great players and youngster to explore himself,ā€ the DD assistant coach said.Ā

After the game in Bangalore, Delhi Daredevils return home to play their first home game of the season. That game will be played on April 23 (Monday) against Kings XI Punjab.
