Brendon McCullum has admitted that Royal Challengers Bangalore missed the presence of star batsman AB De Villiers after their latest loss to Kolkata Knight Riders in Bengaluru last night. McCullum has also added that it was important to believe as a team if they looked to bounce back from this loss.

De Villiers has been a hot-property in the Indian Premier League for a long, long time and when the hard-hitter made the switch from Delhi Daredevils to Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2011, he developed a huge fan-base in the southern region of India.

De Villiers has been in fine form in this year’s edition of the IPL, despite disappointing results as far as the overall team’s performance was concerned. De Villiers has notched up 280 runs from six matches at an average of 56. RCB opener Brendon McCullum rued the absence of de Villiers in last night’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders after he was ruled out of the IPL due to a viral infection.

"We definitely missed AB de Villiers. He's probably the best player in the world and one of the best we've seen in the history of the game, so for him to be absent was a huge blow for us. He's a tough customer as well, so obviously he's pretty ill to not take the field today.

"He's desperate to get out there, so hopefully he'll be back in the next game. He's such a key player for us, and such a good leader. A good man to have around," McCullum told ESPNCricinfo.

Kohli & co have shown signs of struggle this year and despite impressive individual performances with the bat, the team have failed to garner the desired results from their first seven games. McCullum added that the team will look to be confident in their own abilities in order to bounce back from their slump.

"It's tough when you're losing a few games, and not getting the results you want, but you just have to be strong in your own group's mind on what you're trying to achieve. Some people may doubt you, none of that matters, you just have to believe amongst your group that you have the ability to be standing there at the end of the competition with a trophy in your hand.

"We're going to go on the road soon, and it'll be nice to get a win before we get on the road. We're going to have to do it tough, and that's our fault because we didn't get the results earlier," said McCullum.
