BCCI authorities will reportedly question Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri after India’s poor performance in the ongoing Test series against England so far, which they currently trail by 2-0. It has also been revealed that Indian batting and fielding coach, Sanjay Bangar and Sridhar will be evaluated.

Team India endured a rather embarrassing defeat at the hands of England at the Lord’s where the visitors were thoroughly outplayed and beaten by an innings and 159 runs. The Indian batsmen just failed to show up for the occasion, including the magnificent Virat Kohli, as Ravichandran Ashwin remained top scorer in both the innings. The bowlers tried their best to keep India in the game but the English batsmen, especially Chris Woakes and Jonny Bairstow, were in sublime form as England declared after they reached a lead of 289.

The Indians ultimately could not hold out for a draw as they were bowled out for 130 after James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Woakes caused the Indian batsman all sorts of problems. The home team is now looking more than favorites to win the series after their recent win took their lead to 2-0 ahead of the third Test at Trent Bridge. Now, reports have emerged suggesting that the Indian governing body has scheduled a meeting to hold talks with coach Ravi Shastri and captain Virat Kohli to figure out what went wrong in England.

“The Indian team can’t complain that they were not given enough time to prepare. When we lost the South Africa series, the players spoke about tight scheduling and lack of practice games. It was after speaking to them that we decided that white ball matches will be held before the Tests.

“We arranged white ball matches first. It was on the senior team’s insistence that we send India A team during the same time starting the concept of ‘Shadow Tour’. Two senior India players (M Vijay and Ajinkya Rahane) were accommodated for A team games. Whatever they wanted, they were provided. Now if results don’t come, the Board is well within its rights to ask questions,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

The source further added that there was a good chance that if India lose the series, the Shastri-Kohli duo may not enjoy unlimited powers as they were blessed with up until now. The official also added that the positions of batting coach Sanjay Bangar and fielding coach Sridhar were also being evaluated.

“Don’t forget under Shastri and current support staff, we have lost major Test series in Australia (0-2 in 2014-15), South Africa (1-2 in 2017-18). Now we are in dire straits in England.”

“If you remember, BCCI removed Duncan Fletcher’s assistants Joe Dawes (bowling coach) and Trevor Penny (fielding coach) after India lost the Test series 1-3 in England. Shastri became the Director along with Sanjay Bangar, R Sridhar and Bharat Arun joining the support staff before the ODI series,” the official said.
