India’s crushing defeat at the hands of the English cricket team did not go down well with some of India’s former cricketers as they took to Twitter to express their grievances over the loss. The likes of Virender Sehwag, Bishan Singh Bedi, and VVS Laxman were some people who voiced their concerns.

No one, the Indian management included, could have foreseen the almost surreal defeat that awaited them at the Lord’s after a pretty competitive start to the five-match Test series at Edgbaston. India went down by an innings and 159 runs, which meant they are now trailing the hosts by a margin of 2-0.

It would be unfair to put the blame solely on the Indian captain, Virat Kohli, who could not replicate his Edgbaston performance as it was a collective loss for the visitors in which they were clearly outplayed by a dominant England team led by Joe Root. But the end result was not easy to digest by all and some of India’s former cricketers took to the popular social media site, Twitter, to express their views on the dismal defeat at Lord’s.

Former India opener - Virender Sehwag, who is known for his witty Tweets, revealed his disappointment at the loss and hoped that Kohli’s squad would bounce back in the third Test at Trent Bridge.

Former India spinner, Bishan Singh Bedi, also expressed his opinion on the matter in a rather cryptic message on Twitter.

Former Test specialist and SRH mentor, VVS Laxman, however, backed the Indians amidst a lamenting undertone and asked the players to learn from the loss and hoped the men in blue won’t repeat their mistakes in the rest of the series.

Former Indian batsman singled out skipper Virat Kohli as he pointed out that his lower back injury seemed to be creeping back in at Lord’s.

Sanjay Manjrekar, who is known for not mincing his words, also took to Twitter to express his disappointment over India’s below par performance as he reckoned that the batsmen needed to step up their game for the rest of the series.
