PSL spot-fixing scandal : PCB hand Nasir Jamshed 10 year ban

Pakistan Cricket Board has handed over a 10-year ban to opener Nasir Jamshed for his involvement in the spot-fixing incident during Pakistan Super Leagueā€™s 2016-17 season. The PCB had filed a charge sheet with the Anti Corruption Tribunal comprising five allegations against Jamshed in May this year.

Alongside banning Jamshed from playing any form of cricket for next 10 years, the tribunal also decided that a player who has violated the anti-corruption code should be disqualified for life from holding any management positions associated with Pakistan cricket.

"The tribunal has reached the verdict that the PCB's multiple charges against Nasir Jamshed have been proved and he was banned for 10 years," PCB's legal advisor Taffazul Rizvi told reporters.

"He will not be allowed to be involved with cricket or cricket administration even after his period of ban is over."

Jamshed was handed over a one-year suspension by the board in December 2017 after an anti corruption tribunal found him guilty of "non-cooperation" in relation to the spot-fixing case.Ā Earlier in April, the left-handed opener had rejected all the allegations against him laid out by the PCB. As a result, the PCB informed in a statement that chairman Najam Sethi had taken up the matter to an anti-corruption tribunal, which includes Justice (Retd.) Fazl-e-Miran Chauhan, Shahzaib Masood,Ā and former Pakistan pacer Aqib Javed.

Lahore-born Jamshed represented Pakistan in 48 ODIs, 18 T20Is and two Test matches. He shot to limelight because of his sensational performance against India in 2012-13 where he scored three hundreds. Other Pakistani cricketers - Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Mohammad Irfan, and Mohammad Nawaz have also been handed out bans for their involvement in the spot-fixing incident in PSL.
