As Mohammad Azharuddin’s son Asaduddin has been selected for Goa’s playing XI for the Ranji Trophy, Shadab Jakati stated that Asaduddin had been a failure in Uttar Pradesh and has not played any first-class match yet. According to him, it is unfair to trade Goa’s talented players for Asaduddin.

Mohammad Azharuddin has been recruited by the Goa Cricket Association to coach the players selected for the Ranji team, starting from the pre-season camp that is to be held in Hyderabad. However, this does not explain the presence of Asaduddin in the Ranji team, who hasn't played any first class until now and has not achieved any significant success in the cricket world.

Shadab Jakati, a highly successful bowler from Goa has expressed his despair on the matter. Until last season, Shadab had been an all-rounder with remarkable success and had been a member of the Goa cricket team for almost two decades. However, last season Goa Cricket Association developed some issues with Shadab. Though he picked a five-wicket haul against Punjab, Shadab was told to contemplate on the matter of retirement. Now, he has been dropped from the team and is no longer one of the considered players for the Ranji team along with players like Saurabh Bandekar, Amit Yadav, and Swapnil Asnodkar.

“Azhar was a great cricketer but does that mean his son should walk into the state Ranji team, at the cost of talented Goan players? Asaduddin hasn't played any first class match. He tried his luck in Uttar Pradesh and failed, yet Goa is welcoming him with Open arms,” said Shadab Jakati.

Asaduddin's inclusion in the team has been objected by some cricket personalities. It seems absurd to them that players with a lot more experience and talent have been dropped from the team in order to include Asaduddin, whose probable contribution in the team is highly doubtful.

“Without playing a First class match, how can you call Azhar’s son a professional player,” said Namdev Phadte, the first centurion from Goa in Ranji cricket.

“People laugh at Goan cricket because of these stupid decisions. We have become a laughing stock. On what basis are you bringing these professionals? If you look at the records, Goan cricketers like Swapnil and Saurabh-both dropped- have better performances,” said Shadab.
