Injury rules Jayant Yadav from quadrangular series
Jayant Yadav has been ruled out from the remainder of the quadrangular series being played in Bangalore after being diagnosed with a right side strain. Kerala all-rounder Jalaj Saxena has been added to the India B squad in place of the injured Yadav, who will undergo rehab at the NCA in Bangalore.
Haryana all-rounder, Jayant Yadav, who has previously played for Delhi Daredevils in the IPL, has been ruled out of the ongoing quadrangular series being played in Bangalore and Alur. Yadav was part of the India B team that went up against South Africa A and returned with figures 0-45 from eight overs.
But the Delhi-born player was not picked up for the next match versus India A. Subsequently, Yadav was diagnosed with a right side strain that ended the series for the youngster. Yadav, who played for the Indian Test team in 2016, will undergo rehab at the NCA institute in Bangalore.
One man’s loss is another’s gain they say, and rightfully so. Kerala all-rounder Jalaj Saxena has been called up to the India B squad in place of the injured Yadav for the remainder of the quadrangular series that involves India A, Australia A, and South Africa A also. Saxena, who represents Kerala in the Ranji Trophy, was a standout performer in the 2017-18 Ranji season which seen him score 552 runs with the bat at an average of 52.20 and with the ball while he also picked up 44 wickets in seven games.
The 31-year old has also represented India A and the central zone cricket teams over the course of his career. Saxena has emerged as one of the best all-rounders in domestic cricket and was also awarded the Lala Amarnath Award for best all-rounder by BCCI in January 2016. His brother Jatin Saxena is also a first-class cricketer who plays for Madhya Pradesh.
