Geoff Lawson has lavished praise on India’s pace unit and has labelled the Indian attack as ‘one of the best’ he's seen in a long time ahead of the four-match Test series against Australia. Lawson added that the first game at Adelaide on December 6 will work in the favour of the Indian bowlers.

The retirement of the likes of Zaheer Khan, RP Singh, Praveen Kumar and other premier Indian pacers was once seen as a concern by the selectors considering the limited Indian pace talent at their disposal. However, the young batch of pacers which include Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah paired with Umesh Yadav, Mohammad Shami, and Ishant Sharma have formed a formidable unit for Virat Kohli in the past year or so.

Former Aussie pacer Geoff Lawson has been impressed by the Indian attack and is confident that they will put up a good show in the upcoming four-match Test series against Australia.

"They have got some terrific fast bowlers, as good a group as I've seen for a long time and they've got the spinners that always do the job.

"Ishant Sharma's last time out here he got extra bounce. Umesh Yadav bowls freak (deliveries), Mohammed Shami has been swinging it, Bhuvneshwar Kumar swings it as well. They are not going to play all four, they are going to play three and maybe one or two spinners," Lawson told PTI reporters.

Lawson, who has a total of 180 Test wickets to his name, also added that starting the series in Adelaide will work in India's favour.

"The first Test (is) in Adelaide, so they got their wish there didn't they, not playing in Brisbane or Perth. They've got four good guys and they've got some extra pace so that will be a big challenge, I'm expecting a really good series," Lawson added.

In the warm-up game prior to the series opener against Cricket Australia XI, the prime candidates for India's Test attack got a good workout with pacemen Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, and Ishant Sharma all bowling over 20 overs and spinner Ravichandran Ashwin bowling another 30.
