Glenn Maxwell has decided to let go off the lucrative offer to play in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League to play more county cricket and get picked for the Australian Test team. The hard-hitting Australian all-rounder had last played a Test match for Australia in September 2017.

Glenn Maxwell was not picked by the selectors for Australia’s last Test series against Pakistan which they lost 0-1. Then he was not considered for the for the ongoing series against visitors India as well. After the two rebuttals, the 30-year-old has decided to play more county cricket in order to impress the Australian selectors and force them to consider him in the longer formats of the game too.

"This is a pretty clear sign I still want to play Test cricket," Maxwell said on Wednesday.

"To knock back a chance to play IPL was a big decision and a tough decision. It's not something you make lightly, but the thought of playing Test cricket again still burns deep. I desperately want to get back out there and I still think I have a lot to offer the Australian Test team."

Maxwell fared poorly at this year’s IPL and was relieved by the Delhi Daredevils management. Now with the auctions for the 12th Indian Premier League(IPL) season scheduled on December 18th, Maxwell decided not to take part in it.

In the county cricket, Maxwell will play with former Australia Test opener Joe Burns and his former World Cup-winning teammate James Faulkner at Lancashire, and play all three formats with the county side.
