The batting form may have kept MS Dhoni out of the team, but as a patent holder of the helicopter shot, he would be remembered forever. Numerous players have exacted it from time to time, but Rashid Khan did it for the second time and even struck the pose like MS Dhoni after playing the shot.

MS Dhoni’s propensity to play with the bottom hand helped him play helicopter shots with elan and the fuller length and yorker deliveries found the way to the stands, which was not the case earlier. After that, the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Ben Cutting, Virat Kohli, Mohammad Shahzad, and many others have been found attempting it and some became successful as well.

However, Rashid Khan, it seems, has mastered the trick now. After hitting one in the Dubai T-10 League last month, he recreated the same in the Mzansi Super League by hitting one against Lutho Sipamla of Tshwane Spartans.

In the 17th over of the Durban Heat, Sipamla bowled a fuller length delivery on the stumps and Rashid was in the position to play the stroke. He then used the bottom hand to great effect and went across the crease before putting a lot of power on it. The result was almost a given as the ball sailed over mid-wicket fence for a six, but with the audacity with which Rashid Khan executed the shots won him the applause of the commentators. His pose after hitting the six was exactly like that of MS Dhoni’s iconic six against Sri Lanka in the World Cup finals.
