Before T20 became an international phenomenon that has been pushing Test cricket to obscurity, it was meant for pure entertainment of four hours. Big Bash League still holds the culture till today as Tim Ludeman mimicked Richie Benaud to the game beyond the realm of cricketing entertainment.

There have been numerous Twenty20 leagues mushrooming all over the world after the magnanimous success of the Indian Premier League. However, one look at Australia’s Big Bash League and it is easy to observe that it is more of a carnival all around with the ambience always bombing inside the venue. Neither the officials nor the players ever hesitate to take a step away from the gaming aspect.

Something similar happened on Monday’s match between Melbourne Renegades and Adelaide Strikers. After the Strikers posted a mammoth target of 175 runs, riding on knocks from Matthew Short and Jonathan Wells, Mohammad Nabi and Dan Christian ensured that the visitors got the victory with five balls to spare.

However, the highlight of the match was during the first innings when Renegades were fielding with their skipper Tim Ludeman taking his position behind the stumps. Speaking to the Fox Sports commentators Adam Gilchrist, Darren Lehmann, and Mike Hussey, through the microphone, Ludeman was asked to mimic the legendary Richie Benaud. While many thought the task was challenging, Ludeman was stunningly fluent at it.

Turning back to take his position after the delivery was done, Ludeman started, “Welcome back to the Adelaide Oval for the first time today. A short time ago we caught up with Gilly, Huss and Boof and what a fantastic job they’re doing. It’s been marvellous so far here today, a big crowd here in at the Adelaide Oval.”

All the three commentators were in spits with one even asking Ludeman who he thinks would win the game. To which, he replied, “It’s pretty evenly poised I think,” in a familiar Benaud voice.
