While direct-hit run-outs have been the order of the day in the T20 leagues recently, we don’t see many misses now. However, Ashton Turner was involved in one of the most bizarre run-outs as a couple of direct hits failed to dismiss Alex Carey before he threw it to the other end and ran him out.

Jhye Richardson bowled really well for Perth Scorchers who registered an impressive figure of 3 for 7 from three overs to restrict Adelaide Strikers to 88 after the home team opted to bowl first. It was a gutsy bowling performance after the “bat flip” fiasco and by the time Richardson ended his spell, the game didn’t have any life left in it. However, Turner decided to add some fun to it in the 10th over.

The dot ball pressure that was created by Richardson forced Alex Carey to go for a desperate single on the fifth ball of the over after pushing the ball to mid-on. Jonathan Wells was not ready for the run, and even stopped for a bit, but by seeing Carey taking off, he decided to give it a try. However, he suddenly ran backwards and it was the time when both found themselves heading towards the non-striker’s end.

Scorchers skipper Turner, who was fielding at mid-on, collected the ball and tried going for a direct-hit run-out, but he missed it by a whisker. The fielder who was guarding the ball then tried doing it again as both batsmen were still short of the crease, but think what, he failed as well. But sensing an opportunity, Turner then threw the ball towards keeper Josh Inglis, who collected the ball and found an incoming Carey, who had decided to make his way back to the striker's end, short of the crease.

The struggle was real for Adelaide Strikers and it eventually ended with a loss as Scorchers’ William Bosisto and Turner put on a 57-run stand for the third wicket which ensured Scorchers' victory and helped them get off the bottom spot on the points table.
