Stating that Virat Kohli needs someone to help him out on the field, Virender Sehwag has stated that MS Dhoni's return, to the ODI side, will be a big boost for the Indian skipper. He also added that winning at Wanderers would have lifted the morale of the side which should help them in the ODIs.

The bond between Kohli and Dhoni has always made headlines whenever the duo have played together in the limited-overs format and the former skipper has been seen giving advice to his successor during the matches. Kohli has also been very vocal about Dhoni's support and always turned towards his predecessor when in doubt about DRS or field settings. Dhoni joined the squad for the ODI and T20 series after the team played a highly-competitive Test series and Sehwag asserted that his presence will help the skipper in making strategies.

I think, Virat Kohli needs some players who can point out his mistakes on the field.

Virender Sehwag, on why MS Dhoni is important to Virat Kohli

“In ODI cricket, Kohli also has MS Dhoni, who is always there to point out his flaws unlike in Test cricket. You will see Dhoni giving suggestions to Kohli, you will see him set the field... this is definitely a benefit,” Sehwag told India TV.

"I think, Virat Kohli needs some players who can point out his mistakes on the field. Every team has four-five players, who advise the skipper and help him avoid mistakes on-field. I don't see that in the current Indian squad."

After losing the first two Tests, India managed to win the third game on a difficult pitch at the Wanderers. The Indian team showed their fighting spirit in the last Test, especially in the bowling department who continued their good performance throughout the Test series. Sehwag believes that the win would have boosted the morale of the side as they prepare to kickoff the limited overs series.

“The win in the last Test match at Johannesburg has definitely lifted the morale of the team. After losing the first two Tests, people were thinking that India might lose it 3-0 but Virat Kohli and his team made a brilliant comeback. The bowlers made a big contribution to the win. There are only a handful of instances where the bowlers have successfully defended a small total. You need to give credit to Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami,” Sehwag added.
