After winning the Test series against top-ranked India, South Africa failed to maintain the momentum in the ODIs and meekly conceded the first 2 matches. India, who snatched the No.1 position in ODIs after 2 games, will play in Cape Town knowing that they can take an unassailable lead in the series.
In the ongoing series between India and South Africa, the home side have been hit by the injury bug and after losing the services of Dale Steyn during the Test series, AB de Villiers (finger injury), Faf du Plessis (fractured finger), and Quinton de Kock (wrist injury) have joined him on the sidelines. In du Plessis' absence, Aiden Markram led the side in the second ODI and the team suffered a 9-wicket loss.
For India, the series opener was the chance for Ajinkya Rahane to prove his value at the No. 4 position and he scored 79 runs for the team. Shikhar Dhawan found his groove and played 35 and 51-run innings in the first two games. Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav led the bowling attack as the Indian spinners claimed 13 wickets in the series at an average of 11.61.

Pitch & conditions
The first Test match of the tour was played in Cape Town where the players got green beds. However, Cape Town has been worse affected by the drought and as a result, that affected the ground as it couldn't get proper watering to maintain the green top on the ground. In the third ODI, the pitch is expected to be batsmen-friendly and the spinners will get enough turn as well.
It is expected to be a hot day on Wednesday and the temperatures will touch 30C in the afternoon.
