The incident in question happened in the 26th over when Kohli and Rohit had already forged a 95-run partnership with India looking to post a huge target. Morne Morkel’s ball to Rohit was tapped in front of the point that made the batsman sceptical of taking a run. However, a restless Kohli totally misjudged an ambiguous call by Rohit and advanced to close to Rohit for anyone’s comfort. Duminy, who had picked up the ball by then, was lightning quick in execution and his safe underarm throw reached the wickets well before Kohli could come into the frame.

Though Kohli looked infuriated by it, it was largely his fault this time. Despite being prolific with the bat in the ongoing ODI series, Kohli has been quite nervy when it came to running between the wickets. Before this run-out, the skipper was also largely responsible for Dhawan’s dismissal during the first ODI of the series. Even in the last ODI, the Delhi duo looked at sixes and sevens while running between the wickets but a lack of accuracy from SA meant that there were no casualties. 

Even more interesting is the fact that Rohit has managed to reach two of his three ODI double tons whenever this has happened. Now, with the batman past the triple-digit mark, such a possibility is ripe yet again.
