Jasprit Bumrah’s name never comes up while discussing the best fielders in India, but he has come to his own as a fielder lately. He showcased a valiant effort to save the ball from going for a six by stretching every muscle of his body but it was eventually adjudged a six as per the new ICC rules.

When a fielder arched over the boundary rope with his eye being transfixed on the ball to complete an acrobatic catch during Indian Premier League's brief sojourn to the UAE in 2014, a star took deep root in India. Chris Lynn’s catch sent back Royal Challengers Bangalore's AB de Villiers back to the hut and that played a pivotal role in Kolkata Knight Riders' miraculous two-run victory. While that was Lynn’s claim to fame, many fielders took inspiration from that effort and produced many a moment like that to add charm to the game. Kieron Pollard's incredible effort in the IPL comes to the mind straightaway.

Today, Bumrah decided to produce one moment of his own on the first ball of the seventh over. Hardik Pandya bowled a tad short on middle and leg to David Miller to which the southpaw managed to hit a twisted pull-shot, but ended up top-edging it. However, Bumrah sensed an opportunity to get hold of the ball and instantly, lobbed it over.

Although he managed to send the ball back to the play while being in the air, he fell on the wrong side of the boundary rope. Kohli particularly looked amazed by the effort of his death over specialist. However, being oblivious to the new rule, India started clapping for the brilliant effort, but their joy turned to frustration when umpire signalled it for a six after checking the review. Surprised by the decision, Kohli even went to the umpire to check about that and nodded in approval when the umpire explained the new rule to him.

The new rule states, "For boundaries, airborne fielders making their first contact with the ball will need to have taken off from inside the boundary, otherwise, a boundary will be given. A boundary will also be given if a fielder in contact with the ball makes contact with any object grounded beyond the boundary, including another fielder."
