In an interview with CricketNext, batsman and occasional wicket-keeper, KL Rahul, said that he was looking forward to his tryst as wicket-keeper with the Kings XI Punjab in this IPL season. He also said, on his return from South Africa, that Virat Kohli has been nothing short of an inspiration.

2016 was a watershed year for KL Rahul. After clocking 397 runs in 14 matches for RCB, hitting 4 half-centuries en route, he is best remembered for an absolute blitz of an innings at home against England, a 199 that led India’s response to England’s 477 at Chennai, and a 158 away against West Indies. 2017 was less good. 9 Tests with a run total of 633 were accompanied by 7 ODIs (52 runs) and 7 T20Is (279 runs). Although he made the squad that made the trip to South Africa, he made an appearance in only 2 Tests, “amassing” 30 runs in the process.

This did not mean that the tour wasn’t a learning experience, and Rahul professed himself an undoubted part of the Kohli Fan Club, as he said, “He is an extremely good player and we all know the numbers that he has achieved in the years that he has played so yeah, he is a big inspiration and it is great to have a captain like him in the team who leads from the front.”

The 11th season of IPL, in unfamiliar surroundings, as KXIP purchased him at the auction for a whopping 11 crores, offers him a fresh start with the added responsibilities of being the first choice wicket-keeper.

“You are always excited to start any new journey in life and this is one such thing. Yes, I have learnt a lot from RCB and other franchises like Sunrisers Hyderabad. Every franchise that you play for, you learn a lot about yourself and also learn from the teammates and the support staff. This will be a new experience and I am looking forward to it. Like I said, the way I play the game doesn’t change. It will just be more responsibility on me and I love being that person that the team looks up to when it comes to winning games and also really looking forward to a couple of months in Punjab,” he signed off.
