The All-India Senior Selection Committee has announced that Dinesh Karthik will join the squad as the replacement for the injured Wriddhiman Saha for the third Test of the series in Johannesburg. In the ongoing second Test, Parthiv Patel replaced Saha in the wicket-keeping role.

Saha, who took an incredible ten catches in the series opener, suffered a left hamstring injury during the practice session ahead of the second Test which forced him out of the team for the second Test at Supersport Park. Parthiv, who toured with the team as a backup wicket-keeper got a chance to play the Centurion Test but he has failed to impress with the gloves so far. The Ahmedabad cricketer had played his last Test in December 2016 against England in Chennai.

Karthik has played 23 Tests and scored 1000 runs at an average of 27.77 including one century and seven half-centuries. If the 32-year-old will get a chance to play the last Test of the series, it will be his first Test since 2010 when he played against Bangladesh in Chittagong.

The Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batsman will join the team before the start of the third game which begins on January 24 and it will give him a chance to adjust to the conditions.
