A bust-up with Quinton de Kock in the tunnel during the tea break led David Warner to be charged 75% of match fee and handed 3 demerit points for accepting the level 2 charge by ICC. de Kock may face a level 2 charge if Cricket South Africa decide not to contest ICC’s charge for the player.

It was tea break during the fourth innings of the First Test between South Africa and Australia when SA went into the dressing room at 167/5. The break became the occasion for a heated altercation between Warner and South Africa's Quinton de Kock, caught on a video that surfaced online. After their investigation, ICC had charged David Warner with a level 2 offence which was accepted by Cricket Australia, which led to Warner being fined 75% of his match fee. This charge also meant that David Warner has been handed 3 demerit points and is on the verge of suspension if he receives another demerit point.

After watching the video, ICC had asked both the cricket boards to clarify the incident to which Cricket Australia said that their player was provoked which led to a heated exchange between Warner and de Kock.

David Warner ditched a suspension pertaining to the level 2 charge as he was handed 3 demerit points instead of 4. 4 demerit points would mean Warner would miss the Second Test between the two countries starting on March 9.

Cricket South Africa has been waiting for clarity from ICC on the level one charge they levied on their wicketkeeper-batsman. A level one charge is a charge that relates to hurting the spirit of the game. CSA have asserted that they will respond to ICC’s charges only when they get a clear picture of what the ICC has charged their player with.
