CoA strips away authoritative powers of BCCI office bearers
In a bid to assert its authority, the Committee of Administrators have decided to take away all the functional powers of acting president CK Khanna, acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary and treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary. CoA had asked for their removal as they filed a seventh Status Report in the SC.
The proverbial tug-of-war between the Board of Cricket Control for India (BCCI) and the Committee of Administrators (COA) had been the talk of the masses for a while now. Ever since the whole Lodha reforms movement began, the BCCI has been under intense scrutiny in order to get their act straight. The CoA has been behind BCCI officials to ensure that they carry out proceedings as per the Lodha reforms ruling. This had obviously led to clashes of opinion between the two bodies on more than one occasion.
The ugly battle between the two governing bodies reached a whole new level as the CoA has stripped the BCCI office bearers namely acting president CK Khanna, acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary and treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary of all their functional powers active immediately. A BCCI official claimed that it has been done since acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary has refused to sign the Central Contract of Indian players and appointment of GM (Marketing) and the new ACU Chief. The CoA has also said, "all information, correspondence, communications and discussions involving the Committee of Administrators and any employee/ consultant/ retainer/ service provider shall be kept confidential and shall not be disclosed to any person without the express written consent of the Committee of Administrators."
It has come to light that holding out on the central contracts of the Indian players annoyed CoA chief Vinod Rai as insurance policies of the Indian players was about to lapse, which would bring additional expenses. To add to that, BCCI secretary Amitabh Chaudhary questioned the manner in which CoA made certain appointments to its body which included that of a former Page 3 journalist who will be paid whopping salary of Rs1.65 crore per annum.
The fact that BCCI secretary Amitabh Chaudhary travels almost 25 days a month while he frequents five-star hotels and premium air travel deals all at the expense of the BCCI funds has only added fuel to the fire.
