The legend of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s misunderstanding while running between wickets has been written into Indian cricket lore and today, against India, Bangladesh paid them a perfect tribute. Mahmudullah and Sabbir Rahman showcased a funny example of how to make a hash of things in a final.

After the initial hiccups due to their inability to counter Indian spinners, Bangladesh were going strong in their pursuit of making a par score to defend in the final of the Nidahas Trophy. They were well on course to achieve that, but if Bangladesh were finding the reason why they were only restricted to 166 in 20 overs, they can ask their video analyst to go back to the over No. 14’s ball No. 2 and the team can together slam the duo of Rahman and Mahmudullah after that.

While trying to work a Vijay Shankar ball on the leg-side, Mahmudullah was done by a slower delivery and the ball was collected by Karthik behind the stumps. However, being unsure about where did the ball go, Rahman started running towards the strikers end to complete the run, but Mahmudullah was more concerned about whether he was caught plumb or not.

Knowing that there was a chance to break the partnership, DK instantly threw the ball back to Shankar, but his Tamil Nadu teammate, while collecting the ball, fell down near the middle of the pitch. While by then, Rahman was the culprit of making a wrong call and going for a run, Mahmudullah decided it was his time to become the villain. The latter had a real chance of making the run possible all thanks to Shankar’s awkward body movements, but much to the dismay of the Bangla fans, he didn’t even try to make his crease. It was much easier a chance for him to take the run rather than forcing Rahman to go back as the latter had to make a complete 180 degree movement first before thinking of returning.

And as a result of the lack of proper understanding of the situations, Bangladesh had to lose the most important wicket of Mahmudullah, who was the match winner in the last game. Having said that, it was also Rahman’s fault that he decided not to watch the ball properly and suddenly went for runs.
