After coming up with a match-winning performance against Bangladesh in the final of the Nidahas Trophy, Dinesh Karthik has disclosed that he has been practicing these shots for quite some time. He has also added that it would have been an injustice if they failed to win the trophy with a young team.

After defeating Sri Lanka in the second last match of the tournament, Bangladesh booked their place in the final of the Nidahas Trophy final against India. The match offered every bit of excitement as one can expect from a final with India emerging victorious in the last over thanks to Karthik.

The Indian wicketkeeper came to bat in the second last over of India’s innings when the total was 133/5 and he announced his arrival in the middle with two sixes and a boundary in the first three deliveries. Karthik not only decreased the gap between remaining balls and runs but also took the responsibility of the team and when India needed five runs on the last delivery as he slammed a  maximum to clinch the Nidahas Trophy.

"I have been practising these shots - having a strong base and then hitting from there," Karthik said after the match as quoted by IANS.

"Happy to be where I'm and thanks to the support staff who have kept on supporting me for the last few months."

Batting first, Bangladesh scored 166/8 in their allotted 20 overs with the help of Sabbir Rahman’s 77. While chasing the target Rohit Sharma scored 56 (42) and tried to give a decent start. In the middle, KL Rahul and Manish Pandey also contributed in the total as they score 24(14) and 28(27) respectively and Karthik played the role of a finisher for India by scoring 29 runs in just eight deliveries including his winning six in the last ball.

After the long tour of South Africa, India handed a break to some senior players which include the name of Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar which gave a chance to the other players to show their talent in the place of the big name.

"Really happy to come out of this tournament. Wouldn't have done justice to the tournament had we not won with the bunch of young guys in the team," Karthik said.
