Wriddhiman Saha hits 14 sixes as he smashes 102 in just 20 balls in a club game

Playing for Mohun Bagan, Wriddhiman Saha scored an unbeaten 102 off 20 balls against Bengal Nagpur Railways (BNR) at the Kalighat ground in a JC Mukherjee Trophy game. India's Test wicket-keeper smashed 14 sixes in his 20-ball innings in the process, helping his team chase 152 in just 7 overs.

Wriddhiman Saha is undoubtedly one of the best wicket-keepers in India after MS Dhoni. He had long been an understudy to the former Indian skipper and has now been getting his chances in the longest format that he always deserved. However, despite his sublime timings every now and then, the middle order batsman has hardly enjoyed the reputation of a hard hitter in his career so far, until Saturday.

In a club game today (March 24), the wicket-keeper batsman smashed a 20-ball century to take his team home chasing 152 runs. Playing for Mohun Bagan, he scored an unbeaten 102 off 20 balls against Bengal Nagpur Railways (BNR) at the Kalighat ground in a JC Mukherjee Trophy game.

He hit 14 sixes and 4 fours in his 20-ball knock. Saha finished the match in the seventh over hitting medium pacer Aman Prosad for six sixes. However, the over yielded 37 runs as he bowled a wide delivery. The final six brought up the India Test specialist’s hundred.

“I could feel from the first ball that I was able to hit the ball in the middle and I went for it,” Saha was quoted saying by TOI after the game.

Wriddhiman Saha presented another dimension to his batsmanship as he geared for the upcoming Indian Premier in style. “Not sure of this being a record, but looking into the IPL, I tried to play different shots and it worked,” India’s Test specialist revealed.

In IPL, Saha has represented Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab playing 104 matches scoring 1557 runs at a strike-rate of 130.73. He is the first and only player so far to score a century in an IPL final. This year he will be turning up for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
