The IPL governing council recently announced their plan to host an IPL-style women’s T20 exhibition match at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai ahead of the playoffs on May 22. The match will see four foreign players in each team and will be shown live from 2:30 pm on the day of the first qualifier.

BCCI authorities have come together to promote the sport of women’s cricket on previous occasions on the national as well as the global stage. Indian female cricketers have been making the news for a while now with the likes of Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Jemimah Rodrigues becoming popular names in the sport now.

In a bid to promote the game amongst women, the IPL governing council along with the BCCI announced its decision to host an IPL-themed T20 exhibition match on the day of the first qualifier of the IPL at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. The BCCI confirmed that a match will take place on May 22.

As per reports in the Indian Express, the T20 exhibition match will see the participation of four foreign players in each team and will be broadcast live from 2:30 pm on the day of the first qualifier of this edition of the IPL.

"It (exhibition match) will be on the lines of the IPL. Totally there will be 10 foreign players and 20 Indian players across both teams. The Indian players will be picked by the national selection committee and the game, which will start at 2.30 pm, will be shown live," Committee of Administrators (CoA) member and former India cricketer Diana Edulji was quoted as saying.

In related news, the progress made by women-centric leagues around the world which included the Women's Big Bash League in Australia have made the BCCI think over organising something similar in our country as well.
