The 2018 Abu Dhabi Test entered Cricket’s hall of fame as one of the finest ever Test matches in the recent times for the sheer drama involved and Pakistan’s terrible slump. However, Azhar Ali was at the centre to create a silly dismissal for Babar Azam to personify the 'Pakistan brand of madness'.

Talent has always been there, the innovation came along, but trust Pakistan to make fun of themselves in front of the world audience when the stakes are high. When the team slumped from 147/4 to 171 all-out to lose the game by four runs, it just acted as a reminder for people to repeat the cliche, “It was the most Pakistani thing to do”. While Ajaz Patel has marched his way to glory with a single match performance, one would be sitting beneath the rock to take notice of from where the sudden slump started yesterday.

With the team needing another 29 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series, all the money were on Pakistan to wrap things up thanks to the presence of two most dependable batsmen in the team - Babar Azam and Azhar Ali. Little did anyone know that what the duo was having in their minds.

Babar managed to find an inside edge off Ajaz Patel while defending for the non-existent turn. After the edge, the ball went a different turn towards backward square leg where Ish Sodhi was stationed. While the ball was on Sodhi’s hands, Azhar Ali immediately took off for the single, unaware of the position of the ball. Although Babar Azam denied a single, Azhar by then had already crossed him and made it inside the striker's crease while Azam was stranded in the middle of the wicket.

It was a simple one for Sodhi then as he fired in a throw towards Ajaz whose elbow dislodged the bails. However, to stay away from further controversy, he instantly uprooted the stumps from the position. But the real drama came from somewhere else as Pakistan lower-middle order failed to make any contribution and Ajaz Patel led the visitors to a victory.
