Focused on giving my best for Karnataka and India A teams, says Karun Nair
After the snub for the series against West Indies, Karun Nair revealed he has shifted his focus to do well with the Karnataka state team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the India A teamâs tour of New Zealand. Nair said that he looks forward to working under the guidance of Rahul Dravid in November.
Karun Nairâs omission from the Indian squad to play against West Indies was a shocker to most Indian fans, especially since he wasnât given a chance in the recently concluded series against England either. The Indian selectors opted to go with the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Hanuma Vihari amongst others and looked to hand youngsters an opportunity to showcase their talents.
But Nair, who is one of the few Indian players to score a triple-century in Test cricket, revealed that he was not thinking about the snub too much and hoped to do well for the Karnataka cricket team in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. Nair also added that he was looking forward to India A's upcoming tour of New Zealand in November where he would play under the guidance of India A coach - Rahul Dravid.
âRight now, Iâm focused on working on my game and giving my best to the Karnataka team in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy⌠I just want to keep the runs coming in whichever game I play. I think there is an âAâ tour to New Zealand in November, it will be great to be a part of that team and work with Rahul sir. It will be very important for me to work with him and given an opportunity to score some runs there with the India A team,â Nair told The Times of India.Â
Nair said that he was especially keen to pick the former India captainâs brains on where he is going wrong and as to how to improve his technique. The middle-order batsman added that he speaks to Dravid at regular occasions.
âIâm looking forward to working with Rahul sir and ask him about the areas I need to work on and see if he has anything to say about it. I am looking forward to this season I just want to keep working on my game and keep scoring.
âHe has been extremely supportive as a mentor and coach. Iâve known and worked with Rahul sir for about 4-5 years now. Iâve become comfortable with him and find him very approachable. I speak to him a lot about the game and life as well,â Nair added.
