A miffed Chairman of selectors MSK Prasad has expressed his disappointment after discarded senior opener Murali Vijay issued a statement about lack of communication from the national selection committee. The three-member selection committee, led by Prasad has been under the scanner for a while now.

Karun Nair has reacted to the selection process when the team management (coach Ravi Shastri and captain Virat Kohli) and selection committee decided to drop him after six straight matches. Prasad has been on clarification spree, with Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh also criticizing the “parameters of selection.”

”All these are baseless reports. With regard to the non-communication with Murali Vijay after dropping him, I am equally surprised why he has said this while my colleagues and selectors can call Devang Gandhi had clearly informed him about the reasons about why he was dropped”, Prasad spoke to PTI.

Prasad also cleared about Shikhar Dhawan was dropped when he failed to deliver white-ball form into the red-ball format.

“Shikhar is a prolific run-getter in white ball cricket, which unfortunately he couldn’t replicate in red ball cricket. We have given him considerable opportunities before taking the decision on him in the longer format and give opportunities to youngsters like Parthiv Shaw and Mayank Agarwal who are prolific run-getters in domestic cricket and in India A”, said Prasad.

A Senior BCCI official said that Vijay is not providing a clear picture of what has actually transpired.

“It is very convenient that MSK has been the whipping boy with some of these boys not giving the correct picture. How did Vijay land a contract with Essex? Would he care to tell us?" the unnamed official said.

"The arrangement was done by BCCI after speaking to national selectors. Within a week after he was dropped, he was playing County Cricket Essex. He, in fact, missed the early part of Vijay Hazare Trophy as he was playing County cricket. So didn’t Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) knowing that he was playing county cricket. Vijay would do well not to speak about communication.“
