It was a hell of a day for Prithvi Shaw as wishes came pouring in for him from all quarters after he scored a 99-ball century on debut to become the youngest debutant to score a century for India. In a video, he read out the Tweets and thanked the legends while expressing his deep gratitude.

Shaw made the world sit up and take notice of him with an approach of batting that was reminiscent of Virender Sehwag. It was a flamboyant innings and one that put India in a dominant position and made spineless Windies bowlers look even more ordinary. While it was not a surprise for those who have followed him since his record-breaking school days, the way he handled the pressure of international cricket was exemplary.

After the century, the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, and VVS Laxman congratulated the youngster and wished him all the best. While Sehwag stated that Shaw would go a long way in his career and this was just the beginning, Tendulkar applauded the youngster’s mental strength.

And after the end of the Day 1’s play, in a video recorded by BCCI.TV, Shaw went on air and read out the Tweets while reminiscing the veterans’ contribution towards his career and how he was impacted by the players of the yesteryears. His voice was lit with gratitude and his innocence was understandable.
