The Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators has reportedly decided to move to court after Central Information Commission (CIC) decided to bring BCCI under the RTI Act 2005. Meanwhile, close CIC sources have admitted that issue concerning BCCI is practical and would need a rethink.

Earlier in July this year, the CoA had written a letter to the CIC stating that the “issue of whether BCCI is amenable to the RTI Act is subjudice before the Madras High Court”. Hence, it was only natural that CIC’s decision would now make the both BCCI and CoA angry with TOI now reporting CoA’s decision to take it to the court.

The cricket board, however, is miffed with CoA for not acting early on the matter. Given the many aspects like the board’s decision and the players’ whereabouts and medical history, which are at stake here, the BCCI has been confident that the CIC would have to rethink their decision. And CIC sources have seconded it too.

“The concerns are certainly valid. On that note, yes, we do admit that these are practical issues,” CIC sources said, reported TOI.

While one school of thought has argued that in a cricket crazy country like India, where an average cricket fan is the biggest stakeholder, everyone has the right to an explanation of the BCCI’s various policies and decisions, some have argued otherwise.

“But that cannot make way for every single decision like why a certain player was picked or dropped being made public. That will result in mayhem,” said BCCI members.

Bringing up Wriddhiman Saha’s recent injury, which was handled poorly by the board eventually leading to BCCI putting a timeline of his injury on the website, a BCCI member stated, “Otherwise, what ails Saha needn’t be made public in such detail. That is his right to privacy. How will you feel if I made every consultation of yours with your doctor public?”
