Yuzvendra Chahal has claimed that the upcoming ODI series against the Windies will be pivotal ahead of the tour of Australia where India will play four Tests, three T20Is, and three ODIs. Chahal added that the series against England and the Asia Cup campaign have helped him grow as a player.

In the last one year or so, Yuzvendra Chahal has forged a formidable partnership with younger compatriot, Kuldeep Yadav for the Indian side. The duo has been a mainstay in the Indian limited-overs team for a while now and seems to have gained the trust of captain, Virat Kohli. While their combination peaked in South Africa earlier this year where they picked up a record 33 wickets amongst them over six ODI’s, they seemed to have mellowed down in the series loss to England a couple of months ago.

But Chahal has his mind set on the future and won’t be stuck in the past as he looked forward to the upcoming ODI series against West Indies which will start on October 21 at Guwahati. Chahal, in a recent interview with TOI, added that the series against West Indies will serve as an important preparation for the tour of Australia towards the latter stages of 2018.

"I am not going to take the West Indies team lightly. They are an amazing side in limited overs cricket. They have game changers and big hitters. It is going to be an exciting series.

"The limited overs series against the West Indies will be good preparation for me against Australia. I just want to give my best in the series. I want to get fully prepared for the Australia tour," Chahal told TOI.

India are slated to play five ODIs and three T20Is against the West Indies which will conclude on November 11. Just 10 days later, India will depart for a tour of Australia where they will play four Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is against Tim Paine & Co.

Chahal didn’t have an impressive run in the recently concluded Asia Cup and against England, added that the two overseas series helped him grow as a player despite the lack of results. The RCB spinner claimed six wickets in five matches in the Asia Cup at an average of 32.83 while he struggled for wickets during the series against the three lions.

"I learnt a lot from both Asia Cup and England tour. I know I failed to take too many wickets but both series taught me a lot. Put pressure and take wickets, that's my mantra to take wickets.

"Sometimes controlling the run flow is more important than taking wickets. I believe in trying different variations and confusing batsmen," Chahal concluded.
