The England and Wales Cricket Board has confirmed that Alastair Cook will be absent from the remaining two county games that Essex has to play this season. Cook, who played his final Test for England yesterday, has represented Essex throughout his county career starting all the way back in 2003.

Alastair Cook had signed a new three year deal with Essex, after he went on to retire from the International cricket. But the former English skipper will miss the remainder of the current season that has two more games left. However, he is not the only player missing the rest of the county season with Joe Root, Adil Rashid, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, and Chris Woakes will also sit out the remaining matches for their respective teams. James Anderson and Stuart Broad's fitness will be key in deciding whether they will play a part for their sides.

James Anderson, Keaton Jennings and Jos Buttler, however, will represent Lancashire Lightning in the T20 Blast Finals Day. And so will all-rounder Moeen Ali who plays for Worcestershire Rapids in the T20 Blast. Ali will also play the last game of the County Championship, this season, against Yorkshire, though he will be absent from the next week's game between Worcestershire and Essex.
