Vijay Hazare Trophy | Gautam Gambhir stars in Delhi’s colossal win against Kerala

Gautam Gambhir scored a fantastic 151 to beat Kerala by 165 runs in their round seven game of elite group B in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. In other matches of the group, Hyderabad defeated Uttar Pradesh by nine wickets while Odisha lost to Madhya Pradesh by one run at Palam Ground, Delhi.

Veteran opener Gautam Gambhir batted exceedingly well to score 151 runs before getting retired hurt while Dhruv Shorey, unfortunately, missed out on his hundred as he remained unbeaten on 99. Delhi scored a mammoth 392/3 which Kerala failed to chase down in 50 overs. Kerala lost the game by 165 runs as Pawan Negi took three wickets in the second half.

In another one-sided game of the group, Hyderabad chased down a minuscule target of 131 in 35.2 overs and handed over a nine-wicket defeat to Uttar Pradesh. Mehdi Hasan was the star in Hyderabad’s victory as he took five wickets restricting UP to a small total. Suresh Raina was the top-scorer for Uttar Pradesh with 53 runs. Akhay Reddy and Tanmay Aggarwal both scored half-centuries to chase down the total comprehensively.

Meanwhile, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh were involved in an intriguing battle where MP won by one run as Odisha failed to score 12 runs in the final over. Anurag Sarangi was the highest scorer for Odisha with 78 runs as they managed only 276 in 50 overs. Earlier, Yash Dubey’s 75 took MP to 277 in 49.3 overs before they were bowled out. Delhi and Andhra are at the top two positions with 14 points each in the group B.

In group A, Baroda defeated Goa by 133 runs after putting 281/5 on the board batting first. Kedar Devdhar was the highest scorer for Baroda with 107. Krunal Pandya’s six-for in the second half ensured Goa being bowled out for only 148 runs in 42.3 overs. In another game, Rituraj Gaikwad’s hundred and Samad Fallah’s three wickets ensured an 83-run victory for Maharashtra over Himachal Pradesh.

In a big game of the group, Mumbai defeated Punjab by 43 runs to continue its winning streak. Manpreet Gony and Mayank Markande scalped two wickets each to bowl Mumbai out for 245. In reply, Punjab could score only 202 as international pacers Shardul Thakur and Dhawal Kulkarni picked up three apiece. Maharashtra tops the group with 20 points from five matches while Mumbai is at the second position. 

In the third elite group, Gujarat lost to Services by nine wickets as Ravi Chauhan scored an unbeaten 106 and Bengal defeated Assam by five wickets in another game. In the third game, Tripura cricketers showed good commitments to beat Rajasthan by 48 runs. Jharkhand and Services are at number one and two in the points table with 18 and 16 points respectively. 

Puducherry, Bihar, and Manipur won their respective matches against Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram in the plate group. Bihar is yet to lose a game in its Vijay Hazare Trophy return and is leading the points table in the plate group with 18 points.
