Yusuf Pathan has stated that his team Sunrisers Hyderabad will not be the only side which will miss the services of its overseas players later in the Indian Premier League, due to the upcoming World Cup. SRH relies heavily on its foreign recruits and will be a less formidable side without them.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have fielded David Warner, Jonny Bairstow and Rashid Khan in all their matches until now, and there is no doubt that these players, among others, form the nucleus of the side. Apart from them, Kane Williamson, the skipper, who is currently out due to an injury, was the side’s most important player in the previous edition. All rounders like Mohammad Nabi, who is in great form off late, and Shakib Al Hasan are among the other match winning overseas players in the side.

SRH will miss all of their services in the latter half of the tournament, especially if they qualify for the playoffs, as they will join their respective national teams in order to prepare for the World Cup, starting May 30 in England and Wales. The former Champions will go in with a heavily depleted side, but Yusuf Pathan dismissed all worries stating that the team is well prepared for the same.

"SRH isn't the only team which will miss its foreign players. All eight franchises have such players and the team management has prepared well for that situation. We have good players to replace them. Yes, will miss players who are playing consistently but we are confident we will manage well," Pathan said, reported PTI.

The hard-hitting all-rounder also heaped praise on the returning David Warner, who has lit the tournament with his two quickfire fifties and an unbeaten hundred. He is also the leading run scorer at the moment, with 279 runs in five matches. The Baroda player heaped praise on the southpaw.

A successful batsman is the one who comes back after a big match and scores again in the next. There is a lot of aggression inside Warner which is helping him play so well. It is reflecting in his batting even after not playing for a year, he has the aggression to do well. Such aggression makes him a dangerous batsman," he expressed.

"He is focussed and determined. Watching him bat is so entertaining. It's great for us and it's a plus point for Australia to have him perform like this ahead of the World Cup," he added.

The former T20 World Cup winner last played for India in 2012, but claims that he has been preparing well in the past one year, as he has consistently been a part of major domestic tournaments.

"I have been competing in a lot of tournaments before heading into the IPL. Syed Mushtaq Ali, Vijay Hazare etc. There were matches the entire season so I was in the loop. I got to focus on areas I wanted to work on. Playing regularly the entire season helps with match practice, it was very advantageous," the 36 year old explained.

The elder Pathan brother, who runs the Cricket Academy of Pathan at different locations in India, is a veteran in the cash rich league, with over 3000 runs in 169 matches, along with three titles to his name. He maintained that mental strength plays a big role in the tournament.

"I try to use my experience from the 12 years I have played in the IPL. T20 is a very short format so you just have to be mentally strong, have to back the team and your game,” he remarked.

"Matches change in 1-2 overs, one minute the team is in control the other minute it can be losing so I am working to adapt quickly to the match situation and help my team,” he added.

With respect to bowling, the off spinner has 96 wickets to his name in T20 cricket, but is yet to bowl in this edition.  He gave insights on how Muttiah Muralitharan, the bowling coach of the Orange Army this season, is helping him with respect to his bowling.

"Murali sir observes us closely during net practice. He has advised me on where my foot should be while delivering the ball, how long I should hold the ball. "When you are in the game, you don't always realise what are the areas you need to work on. But he keeps on repeating it so it's engraved in my mind," he said.

The opening duo of Warner and Bairstow have been in excellent form for SRH this season. They have notched up three century stands, leaving very little to do for the middle order. But the batting all rounder is confident of winning his team matches when required, and even singled out towards the encounter against Rajasthan Royals on March 29, where he played an unbeaten knock of 16 runs in 12 balls, and stayed till the end to finish the chase.

"It's great that the top-order is firing for us but I am ready for the situation in which my team needs me to pull them through. Against Rajasthan we were at a ball-to-ball situation, loss of a wicket there would have turned the match away from us I knew my wicket was important. I have also batted up the order when the team needed me to,” he signed off.

SRH will next take on Kings XI Punjab at Mohali tomorrow.
