Shikhar Dhawan has stated that he will do well in the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales while pointing out to his performances in previous ICC tournaments. Dhawan, who has been going through a poor run of form of late, has also added that India are the heavy favourites to win the tournament.

Shikhar Dhawan is going through a rough patch, as he has only scored three fifties and a hundred in limited overs cricket, since India’s tour of Australia back in 2018. He has also fared poorly for his franchise in Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, having scored only 152 runs in 6 matches.

But the Delhi batsman has a penchant for big-ticket ICC tournaments as he smashed 363 runs in five innings at a strike of over 100, in the 2013 Champions Trophy, and was even awarded the Man of the series for the same. Even in the 2015 World Cup, he scored 412 runs in eight innings and ended up as India’s highest run-getter.

Another positive is that he averages 65 in ODIs in England, way above his career average of 44. Pointing out towards his performances in ICC events, the opener has assured of another strong show in the upcoming World Cup, starting May 30.

"I have done well in ICC events and this year will be no different," asserted Dhawan, reported TOI.

37-year-old MS Dhoni, with 341 ODI matches to his name, will be the most experienced player in India’s squad. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Dhawan himself have been around the international circuit for a while now, while other probables like Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, among others will be raring to prove a point. Dhawan implied that India are strong contenders for the trophy and remarked the number two ranked team has a good blend of experience and youth.

"The Indian team has a perfect blend of experience and youth," stated the 33-year-old.

India’s 15-man squad for the quadrennial event is due to be announced on April 15.
