Former India cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar has replaced Raju Kulkarni as the next chairman of the Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). Kulkarni and Kiran Mokashi tendered their resignations from the CIC on Thursday and were the latest members to join the list.

Ever since Mumbai’s campaign ended terribly in the last edition of the prestigious Ranji Trophy the controversies surrounding the team’s performance is growing day by day. Kulkarni and Mokashi have put down the papers from the CIC and Vengsarkar has taken over as the new chairman of it. In his career as a cricket administrator, Vengsarkar had earlier resigned as the vice-president of the MCA.

According to TOI sources, the MCA wanted to convince Kulkarni to continue with the position but the former India pacer refused to change the decision.

"I'm resigning as the MCA seems to be directionless When we at CIC decided to back the selectors, why was our decision overturned? This is no way to treat former cricketers of repute. Moreover, none of our ideas/suggestions were implemented by the MCA. There’s no point in discussing anything constructive when you know we have no powers to implement it and it’s going to exist only on paper," Kulkarni told TOI.

In his e-mail to ad-hoc committee member Unmesh Khanvilkar, Kulkarni wrote, "Dear Sir, I wish to resign from the CIC with immediate effect. Since my appointment was made by honourable judges who comprised the Committee of Administrators (CoA), I did not want to let them down and leave it in the middle of the season in spite of several disturbing issues in Mumbai cricket.

"I thank Mumbai cricket Association for giving me a chance to serve my passion for last nine months and have over 300 hours of discussions. Wishing lots of success to the future CIC committee."

Former Mumbai opener Amol Muzumdar had also decided to quit the panel and the entire selection committee of the senior team led by Ajit Agarkar had also resigned after the controversy surrounding Mumbai cricket during the previous Ranji season. Mumbai had failed to make it to the knockout stages of the Ranji Trophy last season.
