Rahul Chahar has stated that since childhood he was told to focus on getting turn while bowling faster deliveries. The 19-year-old has further added that Shane Warne was his idol since he was an eight-year-old, and credited Mumbai Indians support staffs for their moral support to him.

Rahul Chahar, who made his IPL debut for Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017, has so far played 11 matches and maintained an economy rate of 6.78 in his IPL career. The 19-year-old leg break bowler has nine wickets in eight matches played in this IPL 2019 season with an economy rate of 6.43 and has been an impressive performer for the team.

In the yesterday’s match against Chennai Super Kings, though the leg spinner was not among the wickets, he put a break to CSK’s scoring rate by giving away only 21 runs in four overs bowled, maintaining an economy rate below six. He seemed slightly quicker in air, and on explaining his bowling strategies he said that since childhood he was told to focus on getting turn while bowling with some pace.

“Since childhood, I was also told that the times are changing and bowling slower won't be as effective as it was in the past. Since childhood, I was told that I should focus on getting turn while bowling faster." Rahul Chahar said, reported IndiaToday.

When asked about his inspiration, the leggie without thinking twice said, Australian leg spinner Shane Warne was his idol since his childhood and added that he had learnt the bowling skills from the videos of the veteran spinner.

“I think Shane Warne (my idol). When I was young, my coach and uncle used to bring his DVDs and show his highlights to me. I started watching and learning from him when I was eight years old," Rahul said.

India’s former left-arm bowler Zaheer Khan and New Zealand bowler Shane Bond had been successful supporting staff for the bowling unit of Mumbai Indians and the 19-year-old credited them for their moral support to him whenever he needed their help.

"I was with Mumbai Indians last season as well and I got the opportunity to learn a lot through my coaches such as Shane Bone. Zaheer Khan has also helped me a lot. Slowly I am starting to gain confidence as I am bowling well in the ongoing season. Shane Bond and Zaheer Khan have backed me well. During net sessions, they guide me. Whenever I need them, they are there." Chahar added.
