Quinton de Kock has stated that the lack of support to Hardik Pandya made the run-chase difficult for Mumbai Indians against Kolkata Knight Riders. Pandya smashed a valiant 91 off 34 deliveries while chasing a massive target of 233, but didn’t get enough support from the other end.

Pandya kept Mumbai Indians alive in the run-chase with a superb 91 off 34 deliveries, but the lack of support from the other end meant MI ended up on the losing side. Chasing 233, the visitors needed two-three good knocks but they were unfortunate not to have so. Quinton de Kock has said that the batting collapse didn’t help MI achieve fruitful results and no one supporting Pandya only made it harder for the side.

“We would have loved a couple of less wickets when Kieron (Pollard) and Hardik walked in. But, unfortunately, it didn’t happen today so there’s the collapse and no one batting with Hardik made it harder for us,” de Kock said at the post-match reference.

De Kock further spoke about his approach while chasing the mammoth total of 233 at Eden Gardens.

“When you have to score of 233, you need to play one or two shots anyway. You have to try against any bowler who comes on and take a chance to get things going. So if I hit that ball for four or six, you probably would have said ‘great shot’ but unfortunately, I got out so didn’t look,” he said.

De Kock acknowledged that the surfaces in India are batting-friendly and how the bowlers are always under the pump.

“In India, they have generally very small fields, while wicket is batting friendly. Australia have bigger ground, while there’s a bit in the wicket for South Africa. Here it is more batting friendly anyway. Bowlers are always under pressure,” added de Kock.

Russell’s manic approach helped KKR post a massive target while the MI bowlers had a nightmare in confronting him. De Kock hopes Russell does not inflict any more damage when both the side meets on May 5.

“I’m not joking, I hated every minute of it. You can’t fault him. He took his time and then did what he does the best. You just have to appreciate what is done. Not just this game but in the IPL. Hope he doesn’t do it again against us,” he said.
