Ravichandran Ashwin has stated that it is not right to think about the past and that Kings XI Punjab should rather stay in the present. The skipper made reference to the side’s previous season where they were in a similar position at this stage, that too after winning five of the first six matches.

The Kings XI Punjab have only one win in the last six matches and they now find themselves in a precarious position, despite winning four of the first six games. In Monday’s encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad, KXIP’s poor bowling and sloppy fielding let SRH set a huge total of 212 runs. Barring KL Rahul whose slow start made things even more difficult, none of the other batsman scored big, and thereby, they fell short of the target by 46 runs. The skipper Ravichandran Ashwin suggested the team to not think about the past and instead stay in the present.

"It's not right to think about what's happened in the past. It's important to stay in the present. Today is one of those days where we were just completely outplayed, which hasn't happened this season," Ashwin said, reported Times Now.

Courtesy David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha’s aggressive show, KXIP had leaked 77 runs in the powerplay. The southpaw scored 81 in 56 deliveries along with cameos from every other batsman. However, Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh pulled things back in the death overs with three successive wickets. In reply to SRH’s target of 213, none of the batsmen barring Rahul even managed to cross the 30 run mark and KXIP ended up on 167. The skipper felt that the team’s struggle to score big consistently has been hurting them.

"I thought we started really poorly in the Powerplay but we pulled it back in the end. If you see through the tournament, we have been struggling to chase anything above 190. That's probably a balance issue,” explained the 32-year-old.

KXIP will now play host to Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings. Wins in both the games also may not enable them to qualify as they are currently placed at the sixth position with ten points. However, there have been instances when teams with 14 points have qualified and the skipper was positive about the side’s chances, especially with youngsters like Prabhsimran Singh and Arshdeep in their arsenal.

"It's straightforward. We have to keep winning at this stage in the IPL. Didn't happen today but we have to keep our chin up. there's a lot of young energy in the team. We got Prabhsimran playing today. They've all got great ability and we're not going quietly,” he signed off.
