Andre Russell makes surprise Global T20 appearance after pulling out of T20Is against India

After T20 sensation Andre Russell made an announcement that he won’t be participating in the first two T20Is against India that start from Saturday, owing to a knee injury, the swashbuckling batsman appeared in the Global T20 game. Consequently, he faced a lot of criticisms regarding this.

Hours after unveiling his unavailability to the West Indies selectors, the right-handed batter was spotted playing for the Vancouver Knights in the Global T20 league being held in Canada in their match against Edmonton Royals. The player has received a lot of flak following this incident since he was seen to be prioritizing the T20 leagues over his national duties.

The 31-year-old turned up for the game but only to be dismissed for a first-ball duck by Ben Cutting. The Vancouver Knights, however, won by six wickets aided by a quickfire 44-ball-94 by the ‘Universe Bos’ Chris Gayle.

India and West Indies will play three T20Is in Lauderhill Florida, the first of which is scheduled on Saturday, August 3. Jason Mohammed, who plays List A cricket for Trinidad and Tobago, last played for West Indies in the ODI series against Bangladesh last year. He has been named as Russell’s replacement. The all-rounder has so far played nine T20 Internationals.
