Travis Head has described his experience of batting along with Steven Smith as delightful claiming that he takes the focus away from other batter and tires out the opposition making his partner’s job easier. He went on to laud the team’s efforts and recounted his experience of playing in the Ashes.

Travis Head had a crucial role to play in Australia’s dominating win over arch rivals England as his two crucial partnerships with former skipper Steven Smith in either innings helped them reach a steady score. The two were responsible for steadying the ship on either occasion and responded brilliantly, putting up stands of 64 runs and 130 runs respectively.

"It's fantastic to bat in a partnership with him. He sucks the momentum out of the opposition with his batting. I was glad to be with him in this game. Nice to get a couple of good partnerships,” Travis Head was reported saying by Cricbuzz.

Smith went on to score a century in both the innings, making the bowlers toil hard until he practically ended up giving away his wicket. Head used the momentum he created to end up with decent scores of 35 and 51 on his Ashes debut.

"Him at the other end obviously takes pressure off me because they're trying hard to get him out and I was glad to be away from the radar. Hopefully a lot more batting to do in the remaining four Tests together. I know I can get into a rhythm with him at the other end. I know he isn't going anywhere," Head added,

After a batting collapse in the first innings, the Kangaroos looked to be in trouble yet again as they still trailed by 15 when Head came in at number five. However, him and Smith aided by Wade’s century took the team to a resounding total of 487/7, at which they declared setting up a target of 398.

"I think we scored beautifully against all the bowlers, It was an unbelievable day (on day 4). I don't think anyone came to the ground thinking that we could do what we did. In the dressing room, we were confident but not to the extent of the runs we ended up scoring. With the trend of the three days prior, the way the game was going, and to have a day like that just put us in a beautiful position," Head recalled.

With the rivalry over a hundred years old, there is always bound to be exchanges between the two sides’ players and fans. This test was no different, with the English fans trying to get on the nerves of Paine and co. while Warner came up with a brilliant gesture to shut them down with a laugh.

"The crowds were good. There was some banter but I think the guys took it all in good spirit. They (crowd) did sing a catchy couple of tunes. They kept changing stuff during the five days of the game. Sometimes it can be really lonely near the boundary, so it was fun to watch them go about it, some good costumes too," Head concluded.
