Happy with India's process for selection of head coach, says Mike Hesson

Former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson has stated that he is content with the process he went through for the role of team India's head coach, which he eventually lost out on. Since then, Hesson has been named as the Director of Cricket Operations for IPL Franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Life in the past week has been bittersweet for Mike Hesson, who missed out on landing his dream job of team India's head coach, but managed to become the Director of Cricket Operations for IPL Franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore. Hesson was pipped for the India job by incumbent Ravi Shastri, but the former New Zealand coach has expressed his satisfaction with the selection process, stating that sometimes it's about the combination of coaches.
“I went through the process and I am happy with the process. I wish Ravi and the team the best of luck,” Hesson was quoted as saying in a media release issued by Karnataka Premier League, reported Hindustan Times.
“As a coach, you’re always going to be judged only as a coach. Within any coaching group, though, you need plenty of playing experience. That said, I think it’s more about the combination of coaches. I am sure team India has put together a good crew,” he added.
But the disappointment didn't last long, as days after missing out on the team India job, the 44-year-old was named as Director of Cricket Operations for RCB. Hesson also welcomed the appointment of former Australian opener Simon Katich as the franchise's new head coach and said that the duo will put their best foot forward for the forthcoming season.
“He (Katich) was on the radar for RCB for a while, and rightfully so because he’s very talented. He was part of our discussions too," he said.
"I feel like RCB have gotten the right man for the job. We hope to put our best foot forward,” he added.
Hesson, who is currently commentating in the Karnataka Premier League, said that the tournament serves as a golden opportunity for him to spot local talent and hopes to gather valuable information as he prepares to equip the RCB side for the next edition of the IPL.
“This is just a chance to look at some talent. Obviously, there is some talent in the catchment areas of Karnataka. I am just getting to know some personnel in the RCB.
"I am meeting the management later in the week. It’s about gathering information. The more talent we spot the better." he concluded.
