Dwaraka Ravi Teja, a seasoned campaigner in the domestic cricket circuit, is set to play for Meghalaya in the forthcoming 2019/20 season as a professional guest player. The 31-year-old batsman has already submitted all the papers to the BCCI to shift his base from Andhra Pradesh.

Teja broke into the Hyderabad Ranji Trophy set-up with a bang, amassing 653 runs in six matches in 2007/08 season. He became the highest scorer for the team and finished seventh in the overall list. But a significant dip in form over the years saw him getting dropped from the Hyderabad team, after which he decided to move to Andhra in 2016. Meanwhile, the experienced batsman has also featured for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Deccan Chargers.

“In Andhra, the focus was now more on promoting youngsters, so I thought it would be good to explore other options and move to a team where I can contribute,” Teja told Sportstar.

Although he is yet to receive the official green light from the board, one of the top officials at the Meghalaya Cricket Association has confirmed the development.

“He (Teja) comes with a lot of experience and we hope to get him on board for the forthcoming season,” the official said.

The MCA had initially planned to retain Gurinder Singh and Punit Bisht, two of its guest players from last season. But with Gurinder moving elsewhere, the association has now decided to retain Bisht, while bringing in two professionals in Teja and Rameez Khan from Madhya Pradesh.
